Berisha observes a minute of silence for the 22 intellectuals killed by the

The head of the DP, Sali Berisha, started today's speech from the civic gathering that is held like every evening below his apartment, holding and asking for a minute of silence for the 22 intellectuals killed by the communist regime without trial on February 26.

According to Berisha, they were shot only because they could not accept the oppression, the denial of free speech.

Berisha : Dear friends, February 26 is in the history of Albania, the day of one of the ugliest crimes that Albania or any other country in dictatorship has known.

The day in which 22 prominent intellectuals of the nation, all graduates of the best Western universities, unconquered opponents of the communist regime, were executed without trial.

They were shot in a village near Tirana alone because they could not accept the oppression, the denial of free speech.

They could never agree with the new justice of the communist dictatorship.

They could never accept the denial of the right to speech, the right to property, basic human rights.

That's why they, without trial, without any trial, in a unique case, judged after being shot and buried in a common pit, fell as invincible missionaries in defense of the highest human values and ideals.

They were researchers, teachers, writers, publicists, engineers, doctors, true patriots, true intellectuals.

Sabiha Kasimati, Tefik Shehu, Hekuran Troka, Luka Drashkovic, Hakik Koka, Pandeli Nova, Thoma Katundi, Fadil Dizdari, Ali Qeralliu, Jonuz Kaceli, Gafur Jegeni, Petrore Konomi, Zyhdi Herri, Niko Lezo, Myftar Jegeni, Qemal Kasorohu, Manush Peshpia , Andon Derhysa, Reiz Selfo, Pjerin Guraziu, Gon Temali, Mehmet Shkupi.

Let's honor with a minute of silence their martyrdom for freedom and human rights, for the nation's interest in a free Albania.
