Berisha reacts after the passing of Pope Francis: He remembers him as the Pope

DP leader Sali Berisha has reacted to the passing of Pope Francis, expressing condolences and appreciation for the figure of the Holy Father. In a message published on social networks, Berisha describes the Pope as "the Pope of Peace, of divine and human mercy."

Berisha recalls meeting Pope Francis on the day of his election to the Throne of Saint Peter, where he extended an invitation to visit Albania. He emphasizes that the Pope cordially accepted the invitation and that Albania was among the first countries he visited, on the occasion of the beatification of 38 martyrs of the Albanian Catholic Church, killed during the communist regime.

Friends, today Catholic believers in Albania and around the world are in mourning. The Holy Father, Pope Francis, the Pope of Peace, of divine and human mercy, has passed away.

A son of Argentina, but a missionary to the whole world, Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was the first Pope from Latin America, in a hierarchy accustomed to having the Vicar of Saint Peter from Europe.

I was fortunate to meet him on the day of his accession to the Throne of the Holy Father and to invite him to visit Albania. He came to Albania for a great event for the Albanian Nation and all of Christianity, the beatification on one day of the 38 martyrs of the Albanian Catholic Church, executed by the Stalinist dictatorship of Enver Hoxha.

His departure into eternal life is today a reminder that the man, the human being, remains in this life with his works, with his teachings, with his legacy.
