Diaspora registration, Berisha denounces: SP does not accept EU biometric

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, harshly criticized the Socialist Party for not accepting biometric documents from EU countries in the diaspora registration process to vote. He emphasized that this is absurd and that international biometric documents have international certification and should be accepted, as the rejection could exclude most immigrants from the opportunity to vote.

Berisha added that the DP is ready to submit amendments to parliament to change this situation and that negotiations on this issue are continuing.

Berisha:  First, the increase in operators handling the data of registered persons is required.
The CEC has pledged that this increase will happen immediately, but keep in mind one thing, that the CEC is commanded, in one way or another, by the Socialist Party, which does everything to delay this process.
The increase in operators in data processing is one of the serious problems.
Secondly, there are problems with the identification of the cards, but these are from the contracted company.
Our auditors are also dealing with this issue.
The fundamental issue that remains here is this, the acceptance of biometric documents from other countries.
There is a hesitation from the socialists, because for absurd reasons, the biometric documents of EU member states, now is the time of biometrics, cannot be put into question in an absolute way by the Albanian authorities.
They have international certification. That if we go with this logic, that only those who have Albanian biometrics will vote, this way you can exclude two-thirds of the emigration and diaspora from voting.
But negotiations are continuing.
Yesterday you heard Mr. Bylykbashi, who said that we are ready to send the amendment to the parliament to make the necessary changes if needed.
Although common sense requires that no changes be made. A German, American, Italian, French biometric document is equivalent at all times to the Albanian biometric document...
...Now to be honest, their movement does not constitute a major problem, but only that it must be justified, we must be convinced why it is required. Some deadlines tell us that international mail also dictates them.
We are reviewing these proposals before deciding.
