Journalist Artan Hoxha has made a strong statement regarding Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, claiming that he has been conducting video-call meetings from his cell. During an interview with Euronews Albania, Hoxha stressed that Veliaj has been communicating with his people while in Durrës detention, which has forced the authorities to intervene to control the phones.

According to Hoxha, Veliaj's meetings were conducted through means that did not involve police cell phones, but the fact that he managed to lead meetings from prison has caused concern among the authorities. All phones in the Durres detention center were seized after the discovery of these communications.

"He says they misinterpreted his decision. How did they misinterpret him? He was talking to the legal director. Why was the legal director dismissed, as well as the deputy mayor he wanted to appoint? These are just the ones who have been published, but the municipality has become famous, others have also been dismissed," said Hoxha.

The journalist emphasized that Veliaj, thinking he enjoyed undisputed power, continued communications from prison to maintain control over the administrative affairs of the municipality.

"Erion Veliaj, in good faith, thinking that he was a powerful man, has communicated from prison, has held meetings from prison. He did not do it with the police's cell phone, but because of him, all the prison phones have now been collected. It has been kept as the most liberal prison so far in Albania. But when you come and wage that war that you wage with the prosecutor and on the other hand, you ask to hold meetings with your staff from prison," continued Hoxha.

Meanwhile, Hoxha added that after the publication of the lists of candidates for deputies of the Socialist Party, Veliaj's supporters have thinned out.

"Now his visits have become very rare. Before, his supporters would come to him. Since Rama's list of MPs for Tirana was released, a good part of them, who were people close to him, no longer visit him," he said.

This statement by Hoxha is expected to cause strong reactions, as it sheds light on Veliaj's communications during his detention and the tensions created between him and the leadership of the Socialist Party.
