Celibashi: The use of public investments in election campaigns should be changed

The head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, has requested that the use of public investments in election campaigns be changed by law.

Celibashi said that there should be a clear definition between engagement in politics and administrative activities.

"An improvement of the legislation on this issue needs to have clearer definitions regarding what is prohibited and what is allowed. Although the time was very short to prepare the normative act, I think that the CEC has managed to establish some barriers for the conduct of institutions in the election campaign" , emphasized the chief election commissioner.

The commissioner estimated that independent observers should play a special role in the elections.

"Even other civil society organizations should have a more institutional role in this process. And perhaps, this is an idea that has been discussed within the staff of the CEC, in a certain not distant future civil society will be the one that does the preliminary assessment, so to speak, and presents the case for a final and final assessment to the Commission Central Elections" , said the head of the CEC.
