7 doctors of the Oncology Department were under investigation for malpractice

The Court of Tirana has set 8 measures of house arrest and obligation to appear for doctors of the oncology hospital. This is after an investigation by the prosecutor's office in Tirana that managed to uncover a scheme on how doctors of the Oncology hospital sold hospital medicines to private entities.

Police notification:

The Section for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crime, in cooperation with the Sector of the Special Force for Special Operations and Research in DVP Tirana, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office of the Judicial District of the General Jurisdiction Tirana, after a real investigative work of several months, within the framework of a criminal proceeding of the year 2023, has finalized the police operation "Cobalt".

In its framework, the following security measures were implemented:

- "House arrest" for the citizen EG, 44 years old, resident in Tirana, for the criminal offense "Abuse of duty";

- "House arrest" for citizen FM, 42 years old, resident in Tirana, for the criminal offenses "Trade and transport of contraband goods" and "Storage or deposit of contraband goods";

- "Compulsion to appear before the Judicial Police", for the EL citizen, 36 years old, resident in Tirana, for the criminal offense "Abuse of duty";

- Obligation to appear at the Judicial Police", for the citizen AY (P.), 53 years old, resident in Tirana, for the criminal offense "Abuse of duty";

- "Compulsion to appear at the Judicial Police", for the citizen BQ, 52 years old, resident in Tirana, for the criminal offense "Abuse of duty";

- "Compulsion to appear before the Judicial Police", for the citizen HG, resident in Tirana, for the criminal offense "Concealment of income";

- For the DK citizen, for whom the security measure "Compulsion to appear at the Judicial Police" has been imposed, the execution of the criminal decision has not been carried out as it results outside the RSh.

These citizens have been employed at the "Mother Teresa" state hospital, abusing their duties, they did not provide the proper service at the state hospital, but referred patients to private hospitals to receive the services they required.

The source of cobalt used for radiotherapy was also located in the "Mother Teresa" hospital, but it was not put into operation and was out of use, turning into a source of danger for patients. During the investigation, it was possible to move this source and place it in the designated place.

As part of this proceeding, control was exercised in several pharmaceutical entities where a significant amount of suspected contraband and counterfeit goods, amounting to 10,000 euros, were seized, as well as a medical clinic.

The materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office.
