Small earthquakes, seismologists: Recent tremors are not dangerous

Small earthquakes, seismologists: Recent tremors are not dangerous

In recent days, our country has experienced earthquakes with a magnitude of 3-4, such as the one in Konispol, Memaliaj, near Patos, and the last one in Shëngjergj, Tirana.

But why are earthquakes happening in this period and are they dangerous?

Seismologist Rrapo Ormëni: The strongest earthquake was the one on October 25, which fell in the district of Fier, northeast of Patos, near the village of Kurjan with magnitude 4. Such earthquakes, up to magnitude 4, are earthquakes that do not harm. When they exceed magnitude 4.5, they cause light damage only in the epicentral area, plaster, light cracks, etc., so they are harmless and ineffective earthquakes.

I say that in this case there is no room for any kind of concern even in the epicentral area, because earthquakes at level 4 or 4.5 are earthquakes that occur in all parts of the territory of our country, because it is a country with seismic activity, and these are called small earthquakes or microseisms, which do not present any problem for the population, for damages, but which do well to be released in the form of small earthquakes.

If the energy accumulates and such small earthquakes are not released, then the accumulation increases due to these plates, because it exists the collision of the Micro Adriatic plate, the Adriatic Sea with the Eurogene and can then lead to larger earthquakes.

It has nothing to do with the period now when earthquakes occur, but when an earthquake is activated around it, this Fier earthquake, for example, with a magnitude of 4, was also accompanied by 2 aftershocks. So when an area is activated, small earthquakes occur until the state of equilibrium is established. /TCH
