GJKKO sentences former mayor Zamira Rami to 1 year in prison, converts to public

The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has sentenced the mayor of Gjirokastra, Zamira Rami, to 1 year in prison for "abuse of office", but that will be converted into the obligation to perform work in the public interest.

SPAK accused the former mayor of Gjirokastra that in violation of the law, has committed actions that have led to the demolition of two private properties during the implementation of two projects, one of which within the Urban Renaissance.

The owners of the demolished apartments reported Zamira Ramin in 2019 to the Gjirokastra Prosecutor's Office, claiming that they had not been compensated. The file was then transferred to the SPAK for jurisdiction.

Zamira Rami was elected mayor of Gjirokastra in 2015 as a representative of the Socialist Movement for Integration with 54.47% of the vote. Following the opposition decision to boycott the 2019 local elections, Rami did not run for a second term.
