GJKKO sentences former judge Guxim Zenelaj to 6 months in prison

The Criminal Court of Kosovo has found former Supreme Court judge Guxim Zenelaj guilty.

Zenelaj was accused of committing the criminal offense of "Refusal to declare, failure to declare, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public servants or of any other person who has a legal obligation to declare."

Regarding the charges brought against him, the Criminal Court sentenced him to 6 (six) months in prison.

"The guilty plea of ​​the defendant Guxim Zenelaj, for committing the criminal offense of "Refusal to declare, failure to declare, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public servants or of any other person who has a legal obligation to declare" provided for by Article 257/a, second paragraph of the Criminal Code, and his sentence to 6 (six) months of imprisonment," the GJKKO announcement states.

However, based on Article 59 of the Criminal Code, the GJKKO has ordered the suspension of the execution of the prison sentence for the defendant Guxim Zenelaj, forcing him to maintain contact with the local office of the Tirana Probation Service.

Finally, the GJKKO placed the former judge on probation for a period of 1 (one) year, on condition that he does not commit another criminal offense during the probation period.

"In accordance with Article 61 of the Criminal Code, the defendant is obliged during the probation period to: a) Respond to calls and requests from the Tirana Local Probation Service Office; b) Obtain consent from the Tirana Local Probation Service Office for a change of residence," the GJKKO decision states.

We recall that in 2016 Zenelaj declared in his asset declaration 18 apartments and three construction units on Shëngjin Island, Lezha.

As a source for the creation of real estate, the judge referred to a contract with a certain company, but did not provide information on the value of the contract or the source of the money covering the value of the contract.

For 2016, he also declared three real estate properties, units on Shëngjin Island, Lezha, with areas of 16 m2, 15 m2 and 218.06 m2. He also declared 30 thousand euros in income from renting out a bar and residential premises in Shëngjin.
