Rama's bullying language/ ISP calls on political parties: End the insults!

The Institute of Political Studies has issued a statement calling on political parties to stop using bullying language in this campaign for the May 11 elections.

In the statement made, the ISP emphasizes that they are following the progress of the campaign with concern after having found that the political language of some of the most important leading figures in political parties, in the government, in parliament and in institutions of a political nature is not only unethical, disappointing, bullying, denigrating, but also inciting discrimination on the basis of political views, social status, health status, gender, region or age.

ISP Statement:

"With deep concern, the Institute of Political Studies (ISP) notes that the political language of some of the most important leading figures in political parties, in the government, in parliament and in institutions of a political nature is not only unethical, disappointing, bullying, denigrating, but also inciting discrimination on the basis of political views, social status, health status, gender, region or age.

Promising Albania in the EU, functional democracy, good governance of the country, a reformist and progressive Albania, and, at the same time, labeling with unworthy and bullying language, critics or rivals in the face, voters against or skeptical social groups, constitutes a significant contrast and indicator of the deep gap between the political model we should have and the model that can be offered by a political elite incapable of reform, rejecting accountability and civic dialogue, arrogant in approach and involved in corrupt or misgovernance practices.

Albanian citizens deserve more respect. To them, senior officials, politicians, leaders, and every individual and media with public access have a moral and legal duty and responsibility to respect human rights, to renounce discriminatory and bullying labels towards political critics, and to demonstrate prudence and integrity in fulfilling obligations to constitutional principles, the provisions of the Electoral Code and the Code of Ethics, accepted and signed by all political parties.

ISP appeals to parties to return to the political debate on alternatives and priority reforms, on the concerns of citizens and the essential needs of the country.

"The ISP also appeals to the Commissioner against Discrimination, the Commissioner for the Right to Information, the CEC and law enforcement institutions to intervene to guarantee the integral implementation of human rights legislation during the electoral process," the reaction states.
