Having lost the European trophy, Gareth Southgate retires from the English

England coach, Gareth Southgate, has resigned after the second defeat in a row in the final of the European Championship.

The Three Lions lost 2-1 to Spain in Berlin after being beaten on penalties by Italy at Wembley three years ago.

The 53-year-old managed the England national team for 102 games in eight years in charge. His contract was set to expire this year.

"As a proud Englishman, it has been the honor of my life to play for England and to manage England. This has been my everything and I have given it my all. But it's time for a change and a new chapter ," Southgate said.

England's next game is against the Republic of Ireland in the League of Nations on September 7.
