Official Tehran has reacted for the first time to the statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who accused Iran of waging a hybrid war against Albania and that it could be behind the protests against the tourist project in Zvërnec.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei dismissed these claims as baseless and “ridiculous.” According to him, Albanian authorities are using Iran as an excuse to avoid confronting the dissatisfaction of citizens.

"Iran is being used as an excuse to avoid responsibility towards the Albanian people. These accusations are a repeated pattern by governments seeking rapprochement with the Zionist regime. Instead of responding to the legitimate demands of citizens, Albanian authorities choose to level ridiculous accusations against Iran," Baghaei declared.

He added that Albanian citizens are able to judge for themselves and will not fall prey to such claims.
