Not only the US, but also Switzerland cuts off funds for Albania

After the US, Switzerland has also decided to cut off funding for our country. According to Swiss media, the government of this country has decided to end aid programs for the development of Albania.

" This decision comes after parliament allocated less funding for foreign aid in December than the government had requested."

Parliament has cut 110 million Swiss francs ($121 million) from the international cooperation budget for 2025 and 321 million Swiss francs from the financial plan for 2026 to 2028. The move affects bilateral, economic and thematic cooperation, as well as multilateral organizations, according to a statement.

The Federal Council, Switzerland's executive body, was announced on Wednesday about the cuts to international cooperation. As a result, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will end its bilateral development programs with Albania, Bangladesh and Zambia by the end of 2028,” reports Swiss Info .

We recall that yesterday the US Embassy in Tirana notified Albanian institutions that it had suspended support funds following the signing of the executive order by President Donald Trump.

The notice has been sent to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to inform the government of the intention of the US Government's Executive Order to suspend implementation, new obligations and disbursements of funds until the completion of a review of all foreign assistance programs.

We recall that Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent a message to US embassies around the world clarifying the implementation of an executive order that Trump signed on January 20, which stated that "no further United States international assistance will be distributed in a manner that is not fully consistent with the foreign policy of the President of the United States."

" Program partners and implementers of U.S.-funded assistance programs in Albania are being notified of this action."

This document serves as an official notice to the Government of the Republic of Albania. The Embassy of the United States of America kindly requests that this notice be shared with all relevant ministries, institutions, and other government entities cooperating through existing U.S. foreign assistance programs, including:
