"Media Council appendix of Samir Manes", KShM reacts on the article published in SOT Newspaper with the title

In an article published online in the newspaper SOT, several accusations are made against the Media Council.

KShM wants to clarify to the public that the accusations are not based on facts, the article misinforms and misinforms, and in essence constitutes a direct attack by a media against the self-regulatory process.

The article in question was produced after a decision of the Ethics Board of the Albanian Media Council and the Alliance for Ethical Media, regarding a complaint received against Sot.com.al media. By unanimous decision of the Board, the article of Sot.com.al, object of complaint, was found to be in violation of the Code of Ethics, namely Article 1. The argumentation of the violations of ethics in the article is as follows:

The article is unbalanced as the opinion of the affected party is not given. It is not noted in the article that the affected party was asked and his opinion was reflected in the article.

Not only an ethics expert, but also a journalism student can verify the above violations and evaluate the Board's decision. For the Sot.com.al media, the standard work methodology was used in case of complaints. The media was contacted in advance, to familiarize themselves with the complaint and claim of the complainant and to offer their position. After the media did not accept the complaint, according to the procedure, the complaint went to the Ethics Board, where the decision was made. Our Ethics Board does not function as a court, and its decisions about non-member media are suggestions. The decision of the board for the sot.com.al article that is the object of the appeal, expressly states: "it is suggested to the sot.com.al media to delete the article".

KSHM has not threatened Sot.com.al with lawsuits. This is misinformation. Below, the facsimile of the complete communication with the media, where, on the contrary, it is the media sot.com.al which threatens KShM with a lawsuit at the prosecutor's office.

The accusation of Sot.com.al media that "the oligarch has tried to put pressure on the newspaper with an organization otherwise called the Media Council" and "The introduction by Samir Mane of an anonymous organization that has the seal of an association to put pressure on the newspaper "TODAY" is pure slander. The executive staff of KShM has no contact, neither personal nor of any other form, with Mr. Mane. The complaint was submitted electronically by Mr. Agim Fjolla, who appeared in the position of "Director of Communication" of Balfin Group. In addition to emails related to the complaint, with Mr. Agim Fjolla, the KShM staff has had no other contact, of any form, and no prior acquaintance. As explained by email to Sot.com.al media, we do not prejudice anyone, and we take into account any complaint that meets the criteria according to the regulation of the Ethics Board.

Akuza që “Fondet që ky Këshill i Medias i merr nga evropianët nuk i shpenzon për të krijuar një terren sa më të sigurt për gazetarët, të ngrejë zërin për kushtet dhe presionet në punë, por vendoset në shërbim të interesave të Samir Manes” është një shpifje e pastër. KShM, ka qenë në ballë të luftës kundër paketës anti-shpifje. Pra, Bordi jonë i Etikës jo vetëm është i përbërë nga njerëz me integritet, profesionalë e të respektuar, por është i VOTUAR nga një organizatë me 38 media. (Media sot.com.al nuk ka pranuar të jetë pjesë e AME.) Kjo quhet “Vetërregullim”, dhe është alternativa e vetme ndaj rregullimit prej shtetit. KSHM mbron do të mbrojë çdo media e çdo gazetar, përfshirë dhe sot.com.al nga çdo cënim i lirisë, por nuk do të përkrahë e as mbrojë artikuj joprofesionalë dhe joetikë.

A visit to our website and that of the Alliance for Ethical Media, would enable Sot.com.al media to be informed that our Ethics Board has the support of 38 media, members of the Alliance for Ethical Media, that KSHM operates.

Overall, the anonymous article on sot.com.al aims to discretize the process of self-regulation. This is precisely in line with the Albanian government, which has been trying for a long time to claim that self-regulation does not exist or does not work in Albania, and which continues its efforts to introduce regulatory mechanisms in the online media market, where ethics should not be decided by the Ethics Board. of AME, chosen by 38 media, but anonymous people in state offices.
