Orthodox Church expresses condolences on the death of Pope Francis

The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania has expressed its condolences on the passing of Pope Francis.

In a distributed message, the Orthodox Church appreciates the contribution and efforts of Pope Francis to promote greater understanding between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches.

"Participating in the grief over the passing of the Pope of Rome, Francis, we wish to express our condolences to the clergy and faithful of the Roman Catholic Church.

During his mission as priest, bishop and Pope, he always showed a deep commitment to the proclamation of the Gospel in different geographical and cultural contexts, especially through his sincere care for the poor and marginalized.

We especially appreciate his sincere efforts to promote greater understanding between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches. We recall his words during meetings with representatives of the Orthodox Church: “Let us walk together as brothers on the path of mercy and love.”

With hope in the Risen Christ Who: “…will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death, nor mourning, nor crying, nor pain, for the former world has passed away” (Rev. 21:4), we pray that our Lord, the merciful Father, may grant his soul rest. Eternal memory!” , says the statement of the Orthodox Church.
