First repatriation from Gjadri camp takes place, migrant returns to Bangladesh

The first repatriation from Albania of a foreign citizen residing in the Gjadri camp has been carried out. The news was confirmed by Italy's Interior Minister, Matteo Piantedosi, who said that the immigrant has been returned to his country of origin as part of the strategy to combat illegal immigration.

In a post on the "X" platform, Piantedosi stressed that the repatriation operations of irregular migrants will continue in the coming days, according to the Italian Government's plan for a more effective approach to this challenge.

According to the Italian news agency "ANSA", the repatriated citizen is a 42-year-old from Bangladesh, who had arrived in Italy in 2009. He had previously been convicted of several criminal offenses, including a serious case of domestic violence, and was considered a person of high social risk.

This is the first concrete case of the return of an immigrant from Albanian territory to his country of origin, following the agreement reached between Albania and Italy to establish reception centers for illegal immigrants.
