Mane and Kastrati buy two televisions, experts in 'Politiko': Media

The powerful businessman, politically connected, Shefqet Kastrati, has entered the oversaturated media market of Albania with the purchase of Euronews Albania on Monday, following in the footsteps of Samir Manes, who bought TV SCAN last month.

This topic is being discussed tonight by media experts in the show 'Politiko' on Top News.

They say that these are not the first cases where oligarchs enter the media, while adding that in our country in many cases the media serves the owner and not the public.

Julian Zylo: I do not believe we are dealing with the first rich people to invest in the media. There is no negative connotation. Other media are also owned by people who are considered among the richest in the country. Better a poor horse than no horse at all. We can not avoid the rules of the free market. It is important that the media be used to do journalism.

Koloreto Cukali: The oligarchs and the rich are not the same thing. The oligarchs have taken assets, they are not talked about in the west, they stole that they have certain connections and are connected with the affair, the PPP government. Respect for anyone who has made a fortune working, I know from them.

He who has the media has nothing to do with journalism. He who has a tv also has some government-affiliated businesses. That is why the information in the country has become incredible because the media serves the owner and not the public in Albania. This is the biggest problem of Albania and the region. In the media, it is important to investigate the truth and not to make the news in the 'live stream' of Edi Rama.

Arlind Qori: I should be concerned about the presence of oligarchs in the Albanian economy. Those who control the main sources of the economy, is troubling. There are 10-15 people controlling the parties as well. The presence of oligarchs in economic, political life for me is a disturbing act. The media are ideological apparatuses in society, they also impose restrictions on what should be done.

Yzeiri : The media market is attractive, buying is open. We should be happy that Albanian investors make such negotiations in the market, I do not see anything wrong. The media problem is not just ours. We are in a state of deranged media freedom.
