The doctor gives the alarm: Serum and antibiotic, the last thing for children

Cases of flu and seasonal viruses have increased significantly at the beginning of the year in our country, while doctors call for increased care.

The head of the National Emergency, Skënder Brataj, said on the Now show in Euronews Albania that the flu situation is very normal in this period as in other countries.

Brataj said that the biggest mistake parents and children make in cases of flu is giving antibiotics or serum.

"We are in a common flu peak situation like in other countries, the concern is the pediatric ages for the parents, not for us as a healthcare provider. This psychosis of being sent to the hospital to have a serum is the most terrible thing in children. The child should not be pierced for any reason unless there is an injury. From the serum to the antibiotic, they all overload it. In 400-500 visits, 8 people are hospitalized, so they went to the doctor, got a prescription and left", said Brataj.
