The new school year starts today, 20,000 fewer students will sit in school

The 2024-2025 school year starts today for about 238,000 students who will attend 9-year public education. 28,000 students will sit on the school benches for the first time.

According to INSTAT data, the number of students continues to remain low.

For 9-year public education, in the school year 2023-2024, 258 thousand students were registered. Comparing the data of the two years, the number of students is 7.8% less than last year, or 20 thousand students less.

From 2014 to 2024, the number of children in the 9-year cycle has decreased by 34.5%, or 125 thousand less.
