Return to Albania after 13 years of "Nile Fever", 17 infected

Returning after 13 years "Nile fever" in Albania. Nile fever is spread by mosquitoes that feed on the blood of birds. So far, 3 victims and 17 infected have been recorded, TCH reports.

The virus does not spread from person to person. The head of the Department of Communicable Diseases at the PIH, Ms. Silva Bino, issued a press release.

The incubation period for West Nile fever ranges from 2 to 15 days, and in milder forms the disease lasts from 3 to 6 days.

 About 80% of cases transmitted to humans do not manifest symptoms. When the symptoms appear they are very similar to the flu.

In general, this disease is curable, however, for about 1% of patients, it can degenerate into meningitis or encephalitis, especially in elderly people or those with weak immunity.
