Rruga e Kombit becomes an extension of the TENT network, Serbia is building

Rruga e Kombit is becoming an extension of the main European road network, TENT, as Serbia is building the continuity of its part from Nishi to Merdare (border with Kosovo).

Recently, Serbia inaugurated the works on the first segment of the highway, as funding has been secured for the entire segment, which it has declared a priority.

Called the Highway of Peace, as it unites Kosovo, Serbia and Albania, with a high standard road, it has received funding from the European Union.

The Peace Highway is a total of 314 kilometers long, as it starts from Lezha in Albania and ends in Merdara, the border with Bulgaria, covering Pristina and Nis.

The completed part is from Lezha to Pristina and 103 kilometers remain to be built, from Pristina to Merdare, of which 76 km are in the territory of Serbia and 27 km in that of Kosovo. The total cost for these kilometers is about 947 million euros.

The cost per kilometer is estimated at 9 million euros, even though the highway in the Serbian part has many bridges and tunnels.

The cost of the works is lower than when the Albanian part of the Nation's Road was built at about 11 million euros per kilometer, while the costs of building a highway in our country currently have reached about 15-20 million euros per kilometer.

The alignment of the National Road in the Serbian part will have 88 bridges, 7 overpasses and underpasses and 35 tunnels and will cost no more than 9 million euros per kilometer.

Its construction is co-financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), while the European Union is offering investment grants through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).

In the part of Kosovo from Prishtina to Nis, the project is in the process of technical detailing, at a still early stage.

With the completion of the Peace Highway, Albania strengthens its connections with the main European network, as the two highways that pass through our country have become part of the main European TENT network, the North-South Highway and the Corridor. Monitor
