Today, the holy father, head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21 at the age of 88, is being conveyed to his final resting place.

In his honor, the Albanian government has declared today a national day of mourning, with flags at all institutions lowered to half-mast.

This day has also affected the electoral agendas. The Socialist Party has postponed the meetings it had planned to hold in the Fier region, while the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, said yesterday that he will continue with the campaign meetings, but a minute of silence will be held at the start of each meeting. Participating from Albania are President Begaj with his wife, Minister Igli Hasani and Minister Adea Pirdenji, the Albanian Ambassador to the Vatican, Majlinda Frangaj, as well as the heads of religious communities, the head of the Catholic Church, Arjan Dodaj, the head of the Muslim Community, Bujar Spahiu, the Grand Patriarch of the Bektashi Order, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, and the Archbishop of the Orthodox Church, Joani.
