The director of the Divjakë-Karavasta National Park, Ardian Koçi, announced his irrevocable resignation a few months after his return to duty.

In February of this year, Ardian Koçi was fired after an interview for the Voice of America regarding natural tourism in Albania, and the reason, according to the Agency, was the failure to obtain permission from his superiors for the interview.

The agency canceled the order after the intervention of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, from which it depends, and only a few days later, Mr. Koçi returned to his duties, withdrawing a lawsuit he had filed in the civil court of Lushnja.

Through a post on the Facebook social network on Wednesday evening, Mr. Koçi says that "after the re-appointment in March, what I did not think happened, forcing me to resign, which according to him is not a normal resignation, but a "resignation" of imposed".

"My personality and professionalism do not allow me to work under these conditions", says Mr. Koçi, publishing the letter of resignation addressed to the general director of the National Agency of Protected Areas, Daniel Pirushi.

In the letter, Mr. Koçi mentions the "lack of communication" with the General Director, Daniel Pirushi and "the lack of normal conditions for the continuation of the exercise of his duties" and lists some of the reasons for this situation.

According to him, "the staff of the Park is incomplete, the appointments were made without taking the opinion of the park and appointments were made of employees far from the protected areas and who cannot perform their duties".

Mr. Koçi also talks about concrete difficulties such as "delays in solving the problems that arise, significant lack of fuel for vehicles, which do not allow the performance of tasks, lack of uniforms", etc.

Until the publication of this article, neither the National Agency of Protected Areas nor the Ministry of Tourism and Environment responded to the interest of the Voice of America for a reaction on the resignation of Mr. Koçi and his claims.

Divjakë-Karavasta National Park, with about 22 thousand ha, is the most important complex area of Albania in terms of biodiversity as it has the highest concentration of waterfowl with about 51 thousand individuals, while 89 different species belong to the highly endangered categories .

The trend of constructions, tourist pressure, but also the development of agricultural greenhouses without criteria, constitute a threat to the natural area of the Park./ VOA
