Murder of Martin Cani, the perpetrator in court: I found the knife on the street

The trial for the murder of 14-year-old Martin Cani took place in the Tirana Court. The defendant in this process is only another minor, also 14 years old, who initially denied being the author of Martin's stabbing, while in yesterday's session it was learned that he said he did not have a knife with him but found it on the street.

The version officially presented by the Police about that event was about an unbelievable scene, while bystanders who witnessed the fight indicated that there were other people armed with knives at the event.

Even the survivor of that fight, the victim's friend, said that a person hit him in the back while he was walking, while the police say that Mario Përlleshaj, the main accused, was lying on the ground.

However, other evidence is expected to be taken in connection with the trial, which is being held behind closed doors due to the sensitivity and age of the defendant.

According to court records, in the presence of a psychologist, the minor suspected of the murder of 14-year-old Martin Cani testified for the first time in the Tirana Court on November 18 last year, where his trial was held behind closed doors. In the testimony requested by the prosecution, the minor avoided most of the answers.

Regarding the investigators' dilemmas regarding the fatal stabbing that took the life of his peer, the people involved, and the moment of the fight, the minor stated that he did not remember it. The suspect stated that he did not have a knife with him that day at school.

He said he found the cutting tool on the street. He admits that the reasons for the fight with his peer and student at the same school, “Fan Noli”, were a continuation of the arguments he had had 3 days before the incident. Before the black squads, the minor claimed that he had been punched by Martin Cani. The latter, according to him, had sent him an invitation to “SnapChat”, and there he said that the arguments had continued.

The alleged perpetrator claims that they had left him to explain himself on Monday, the day the murder took place, in an alley a few meters from the school. Three days before he was killed during a fight after class, Martin Cani and the suspect had had a conflict within the school, which was apparently resolved, but was neglected even by the security officer of "Fan Noli" herself, not reporting it to the directorate or to the children's parents.

The tragic scene took place after class. They met not far from the school, where a fight broke out that ended with the murder of Martin, the injury of his friend and the perpetrator's self-injury with his knife. After the incident, the perpetrator threw the bag with the knife into an old building, which was found a few days later and the expertise revealed that the victim and the injured person had been stabbed with the same knife.
