The EU emissary for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, visited Kosovo today, where he held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi. After the meeting, Lajçak confirmed that an agreement has been reached for a new round of dialogue at the level of chief negotiators, but did not give details about the exact date of this meeting.
Regarding this development, Professor Seb Bytyçi gave his comment on TV Dukagjini, stressing that these meetings are preparations for the next meeting in Brussels. He added that meetings are always held before the main meetings to prepare the agenda and issues to be discussed.
According to Bytyç, Kosovo has not agreed to discuss the issue of the bridge in Mitrovica and a partial agreement has been reached to build a clear interim overview on this issue. He also pointed out that the EU and Lajcak's approach to this dialogue has often been wrong, including the demand that Kosovo discuss issues that have already been negotiated and agreed upon.
"Kosovo should request a sequencing plan as soon as possible and insist on recognition from Serbia," Bytyçi emphasized.
He added that he does not expect any important results from the upcoming meetings, but emphasized that important issues are discussed in them, including missing persons and other open issues.
And for this meeting, political analyst Afrim Kasolli says that it will only be for crisis management.
"If this meeting is held, I see it as a function of what has to do with the EU's efforts to manage crises, the current situations that have occurred", Kasolli stated.
And the lawyer, Tomë Gashi, said that he sees Lajçak's visit to Kosovo only as a "salary justification".
"Lajcaku came to Pristina only to justify his salary. It's fun how many months are left in his mandate, to feel important, some kind of VIP", declared Gashi.
