Kurti: Biden's withdrawal, the end of an era

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that the withdrawal of the US President, Joe Biden, from the race for re-election, marks the "end of an era".

"The world - and especially Kosovo - is a better and safer place, because of his extraordinary contributions. For this, we will always be grateful," Kurti wrote on the X platform.

He said that Biden, for decades, has been one of Kosovo's greatest friends and tireless supporters. Biden announced on July 21 that he will withdraw from the November 5 presidential race.

Pressure from his Democratic Party to withdraw grew after Biden's poor performance in a presidential debate with Republican challenger Donald Trump. Biden endorsed his running mate, Kamala Harris, to run against Trump. During his more than 50-year career in politics, Biden was a senator for more than three decades, two terms as vice president of Barack Obama, and one term as president.

As a senator, he was a vocal supporter of NATO's military action against Serbia to stop the violence in Kosovo, and then of Kosovo's independence. As vice president, he visited Kosovo twice. In recent years, from the position of the president, he encouraged several times Kosovo, but also Serbia to normalize relations with each other./ REL
