The closed-door meeting without Kurt for the association, Hovenier reacts
The US ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, has reacted after the meeting that was held for the creation of the association of municipalities with Serbian majority in Kosovo.
He wrote on social networks that, "We continue to support the implementation of all the commitments made in the dialogue for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations".
Government officials, leaders of political parties, members of civil society and diplomats participated in the discussions. But Prime Minister Albin Kurti was not invited to the meeting.
The US embassy said ahead of the discussion that it expects to hear "well-thought-out views".
The agreement for the formation of this association was reached in 2013 within the dialogue for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations, but it was never implemented.
The Government of Kosovo, led by Albin Kurti, opposes the establishment of the Association, while Serbia insists that Kosovo implement the agreements reached within the dialogue mediated by the European Union. Meanwhile, the USA has argued that the time has come for the Association to be formed.
