"Vucic cannot be trusted"

"Serbs are marching in Kosovo?", "Putin is inciting the next Balkan war?", "Serbian game"... These are just some of the headlines of the German press about the situation in Kosovo and Serbia.

German media reports that on Sunday (October 1), Serbian military vehicles were seen leaving the Kosovo border and heading towards central Serbia. "The government of Serbia may have responded to the calls for withdrawal," writes Die Zeit newspaper.

At the same time, the newspaper recalls that "the Government of Kosovo announced on Saturday that it monitors the movement of the Serbian army from "three different directions" and that it "called on Serbia to ensure the demilitarization of the border area".

Media reports that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has denied reports of an increased military presence on the border with Kosovo. He spoke on social networks about the "campaign of lies" against Serbia.

More Bundeswehr troops?

Earlier, the German government warned that tensions could rise, given the apparent increased number of Serbian soldiers on the border with Kosovo. "There should be no further escalation" between Serbia and Kosovo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the X network (formerly Twitter) and emphasized that it is important that Serbia "immediately reduce the number of units on the border".

At the same time, the three German parties in power, the Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens and the Liberals (FDP), declared in favor of strengthening the peacekeeping mission of KFOR in Kosovo under the command of NATO. This means the deployment of additional forces of the German Bundeswehr.

"Germany, in consultation with its allies, should urgently check whether KFOR's mandate is fully fulfilled and send more soldiers to Kosovo," Greens politician Anton Hofreiter told Spiegel magazine.

The Bundeswehr currently has 85 soldiers in Kosovo. The mandate, which was last extended by the Bundestag in May, calls for the deployment of up to 400 Bundeswehr soldiers to Kosovo. "There is, therefore, still room for increasing the contingent without the need to change the mandate," Marie-Agnes Strak-Zimmermann, president of the parliamentary defense committee, also told Spiegel.

"There can be no military solution"
