Walker: What happened in Racak changed the fate of the Balkans

The former head of the OSCE Verification Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador William G. Walker, has recalled the Recak massacre, describing it as a historic moment that changed the fate of the Balkans.

His statement came shortly before the promotion of his new book, "Reçak: The Story of a War Crime," Kosovo media wrote.

Walker described this moment as one of the most important in his life.

"All I can say is that this is one of the two or three most important days of my life. There is no other thought in my mind than what happened in Recak that changed something as big as the entire Balkans... I'm here to try to convince people to read the book about some of the things that happened during 1998-1999 ," Walker said.

The book "Reçak: The Story of a War Crime" brings the personal and professional narrative of Ambassador Walker, describing his role in uncovering and denouncing the Reçak massacre on January 15, 1999, where Serbian forces massacred 45 Albanian civilians.

This event was a turning point for Kosovo, which subsequently led to NATO's military intervention against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
