Unfortunately, the Italian designer Renato Balestra, one of the famous names in fashion, has passed away at the age of 89. Balestra closed his eyes in Rome. The sad news was announced by the designer's two daughters, Fabiana and Federica, together with their granddaughter Sofia. The latter is expected to take over the leadership of the "Balestra Maison" brand. Renato Balestra will be escorted to his final residence on Tuesday November 29 in the capital at the church of Santa Maria del Popolo.

We recall that Balestra opened his first atelier in 1959 in Rome. Born into a family of architects and engineers, he stood out for his artistic spirit and was defined as the "painter of fashion". Known for his artistic embroideries and mixing of different fabrics and transparencies, his name was associated with a particular color, Balestra blue.

His strong passion for cinema led him to design costumes for Ava Gardner in "The Barefoot Contessa" and "The Sun Also Rises;" for Gina Lollobrigida in "Beautiful but dangerous"; for Sophia Loren in "Lucky to Be a Woman" and for Candice Bergen in "Adventurers". It became a favorite of movie stars, including Elizabeth Taylor, Claudia Cardinale and Carroll Baker.
