Actress Mary Mara dies, drowns in a river in New York

The world of acting has lost a star.

Mary Mara, an actress known for her roles in ER and Laë & Order, has died at the age of 61, confirms her representative for E! News of June 27th.

"Mary was one in a million - one of the best actresses I have ever met," Mara manager Craig Dorfman said in a statement. "I first saw her off Broadway in 1992 in Mad Forest and she was electrifying. She was unique, extremely funny and a wonderful woman that she will miss."

Mara was found dead June 26 after a suspected drowning incident while swimming in the St. Louis River. Lawrence, according to a press release from the New York State Police. Authorities said in the announcement that Mara's body, di lei, showed no signs of bad play.

The cause of death has not yet been made known, pending an investigation by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner's Office. During her extensive career in television drama, Mara held a recurring role of Loretta Sweet in ER from 1995 to 1996. Beyond the popular soap opera, Mara appeared in Hope & Gloria, NYPD Blue and Dexter.
