Gjadri Camps, ANSA: EC Committee for the Prevention of Torture soon in Albania

The Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) "does not rule out the possibility of examining the situation in Italian repatriation centres in Albania".
This was stated by its president Alan Mitchell and executive secretary Hugh Chetwynd during the presentation of its annual report, ANSA writes .
"The issue of these centres was discussed during the meeting I had with Justice Minister Carlo Nordio last October in Rome ", said Mitchell, stressing that the body, taking into account the discussions underway in other countries on the delegation of repatriation centres, is keeping a close watch on those in Albania.

Chetwynd recalled that the body had published a highly critical report on repatriation centers in Italy late last year and noted that " given the fact that this model has to some extent been exported to Albania, I think it is clear what the CPT's position is, even without being there yet."
