He received 2.5 million lek in bribes, GJKKO sentences Qazim Sejdini's

INUV at the Municipality of Elbasan, Andri Mehja, for the criminal offense of "passive corruption of persons exercising public functions", committed in collaboration.

Mehja was initially sentenced to 3 years in prison, but due to the shortened trial, his sentence was reduced to 2 years in prison. Again, the court decided to convert it to 4 years of probation. He was also given an additional sentence: a ban on exercising public functions for a period of 5 years.

The same decision was given to another former employee of INUV Elbasan, Gentian Bako, who also received a shortened trial and his 2-year sentence was converted into 4 years of probation.

The case was first reported by the investigative show "Stop", which published a corruption scheme involving Mehja. He, through a realtor, had asked a businessman in Elbasan for 2.5 million lek to reduce a fine imposed for building an unauthorized tent from 17 million lek to 5 million.

After the denunciation was published in April last year, Mehja was declared wanted and arrested six months later, in October, at the Kapshtica border crossing.

Andri Mehja is the brother of Orel (alias Aurel) Mehja, the son-in-law of the former mayor of Elbasan, Qazim Sejdini. The latter was arrested in March of this year for "intimidation due to duty" after threatening a police officer.
