Krasniqi on Trump's statement: Lack of institutions endangers Kosovo's international position

Krasniqi on Trump's statement: Lack of institutions endangers Kosovo's

After failing for the 33rd time in their attempt to constitute the Assembly of Kosovo, deputies from the Democratic Party of Kosovo have raised serious concerns about the consequences that this situation could have on the country's international relations, especially with key allies such as the United States of America.

PDK MP Memli Krasniqi has emphasized that the lack of functional institutions could severely damage Kosovo's position if an opportunity arises for more active engagement in the dialogue process with Serbia.

"If at some unexpected moment, which we cannot predict, the US demands a more proactive approach from Kosovo towards a potential agreement with Serbia, the lack of consolidated institutions will be a serious obstacle and will directly damage our position," Krasniqi declared to the media, according to Telegrafi.

Krasniqi said that it is welcome that President Trump is mentioning Kosovo for the first time in a long time.

"Despite the fact that the priorities of American diplomacy and foreign policy are related to conflicts in the country, including the Israel-Iran and Russia-Ukraine and other hotbeds of crisis. I see positively the fact that Trump mentions Kosovo and sees it as a topic that will be addressed during his mandate," said Krasniqi.

Another PDK MP, Vlora Çitaku, has also called on the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, to put aside personal interests and work to overcome the political deadlock.

"It is the last moment for the Vetëvendosje Movement and Albin Kurti to reflect. The world is changing dramatically every day, and Kosovo cannot allow itself to stagnate because of personal egos. Kosovo is bigger than any individual. I am sorry that we are in a situation that seems to have no way out," Çitaku stressed.
