Bad weather, at least 15 dead from floods in Bosnia-Herzegovina

Massive floods and landslides in Bosnia and Herzegovina claimed at least 15 lives on Friday after a heavy rainstorm swept through the country overnight.

Authorities say several people are still missing and the military and local volunteers have been called in to help with rescue operations.

Bosnian Defense Minister Zukan Helez told local media that the troops were engaged to assist in rescue and recovery missions.

"Hour after hour we are getting news of new victims... We sent everyone we could. Our first priority is to save the people who are alive," Helez said.

14 victims were reported in Jabllanica, while another person died in the town of Fojnica near Kiseljak, according to local media. The floods also affected Konjic, Kreshevë and Buturović polje.

The fire station in Jabllanica said the city of Herzegovina was completely inaccessible because roads and train lines were blocked by debris.

"You cannot enter or leave Jabllanica at the moment," the state rescue service said. "Landlines are working, but cell phones have no signal." Reports said raging waters swept away pets and cars as water quickly filled the lower floors of buildings.
