Helicopter crashes in Italy, three dead, including a businessman

A helicopter crashed this evening in Castelguelfo di Noceto, in the province of Parma in Italy, and as a result three people on board lost their lives.

Italian media report that among the victims was Lorenzo Rovagnati, 41, CEO of the cured meat company famous for Gran Biscotto and one of the heirs of founder Paolo.

His name was reported by several sources to rescue teams at the scene.

The other two dead are believed to be the pilots. Emergency services 118, firefighters with several teams and the Carabinieri have intervened to launch investigations to reconstruct the causes of the tragic accident.

The National Aviation Safety Agency has also opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident and will send an inspector to the scene in the coming hours to coordinate with investigators.

Since the afternoon there was a dense fog in the area, which together with the darkness could have been among the causes of the tragedy. According to the initial information collected, the helicopter was taking off and, perhaps after an unsuccessful attempt to gain altitude, was trying to return to the ground.

Lorenzo Rovagnati was a father of two children and was expecting a third.
