EU to limit entry to Schengen visa-free area for 30 days in an effort to stop

The European Union (EU) will decide today to ban the “non-essential” entry of all foreign nationals into the 26 member states that make up the Schengen visa-free area.

Only residents, family members and essential staff – healthcare workers and medical experts – will be exempt from the measures, to be imposed for 30 days initially.

The proposal was issued by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during a teleconference with G-7 leaders on Monday.
