French company Voltalia as wins bid on Karavasta Photovoltaic Park

Print and electronic media report on the Albanian government aiming to insert Albania in the map of countries that produce energy through photovoltaic panels in order to increase the energetic security and diversify energy resources. Speaking at a conference held on Wednesday, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku said five companies had already presented their offers in the international bidding held for the Karavasta photovoltaic park, with only one French company meeting the conditions so far.

That is the French company Voltalia, which was declared the winner at today’s conference. Voltalia will sell half its energy to Albania at €24.89 per MWh for the first 15 years of the contract and the rest on the open market. A €100mln investment, the park will be covering 122 ha in the Remas area of Divjaka and 76 ha in the Libofsha area of Fier. “This is a very positive day for Albania. Until 2050, the world we live in is expected to triple its energy needs. This is the biggest park in the region. For us, this is the start of a process, and we expect an increase in these capacities. The price is fantastic, beyond any prediction, as expectations were far off. I hope we will have a construction site by fall,” Prime Minister Rama said at the conference. Rama added that a project for the Skavica hydropower plant would be prepared soon as well to be fully funded by the state.
