Grenell in Belgrade: Serbia and Kosovo will have to cooperate

A compromise solution to the Kosovo problem is in the interest of stability and the future of the entire region, and it can be reached only by acknowledging Serbia’s legitimate interests, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic declared during a meeting with the special envoy of US President Richard Grenell.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, Vucic conveyed to his US counterpart that Serbia is determined to resolve the relation between Belgrade and Pristina through dialogue, and acquainted him with Serbia’s stance regarding the position of Kosovo Serbs.

Grenell said that the goal of the US is to facilitate a comprehensive accord between its partners in Kosovo and in Serbia, that would resolve the points of conflict in the region and added both sides will have to seek a quick solution and to closely cooperate to that effect.

According to the statement, Grenell said the administration of US President Donald Trump strongly believes that economic development and creating new jobs is key in the process of ensuring durable peace.

On Thursday, Grenell arrived in Belgrade from Pristina where, a day earlier, he met with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and likely prime minister-designate of the new Kosovo cabinet Albin Kurti.

Immediately upon arriving in Belgrade, he made a statement on the US Embassy Tweeter account, conveying the message of US President Donald Trump, in which he states that “citizens of Serbia and Kosovo want peace, economic development, jobs and a better life for their children”.
