KFOR Soldiers, including Albanians, Walk in Mitrovica North, Agitates Local

A group of soldiers from different NATO member states that make up KFOR, including four soldiers from Albania, visited the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica, mostly populated by Serbs, on Thursday, which caused anxiety among the citizens of Serbian nationality and much negative criticism on social networks.

The group walked from the main bridge over the Ibar River, which separates Serbian and Albanian parts of the town, to the monument to Prince Lazar in the center, where they took photos.

As the portal Kossev reported, Serbian political parties also reacted claiming this was a provocation.

However, KFOR said that the provocation was not intended and reminded that Albania had been a NATO member state for 10 years already as well as that the group consisted of members of different nations.

KFOR said that the group of soldiers conducted “reconnaissance activities” in Kosovo and that the work consisted of visiting different places in Kosovo, including Mitrovica and other locations in the north that was populated by Serbs.
