Mira Markovic, widow of Milosevic, is fighting for her life in Russia

Mira Markovic, the widow of Serbian and Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic (who died at the Hague Tribunal detention center in 2006, while standing trial for war crimes) is in poor health and doctors in Russia are fighting for her life, the pro-regime tabloid Alo reported on Monday.

The newspaper writes that Markovic is in Sochi, where she has undergone four operations, but that her vital functions are still unstable and the doctors won’t give any forecasts.

The tabloid did not provide any details regarding the alleged illness is suffered by Markovic, who was recently acquitted on all charges before the Serbian courts.

Markovic fled to Russia in early 2003, just prior to the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. She was granted political asylum and lived with her son Marko.
