Office for Kosovo Director: Belgrade-Pristina Flights Are Connecting “Our

Serbia will issue an official letter to UNMIK and KFOR on the intention to, after two decades, reinstate airline traffic between “two of its cities”, Belgrade and Pristina, announced the Director of the Office for Kosovo on Tuesday.

“We shall inform them of the intention to, in accordance with the UN Resolution 1244, Military-Technical Agreement [by which, in 1999, the NATO bombing of the then Yugoslavia ended], the Serbian Constitution and the existing international regulations, renew the air route which had not functioned for longer than two-decade and in this manner draw closer our two cities, which will be good for the people of all nationalities and the business community”, Djuric said for Tanjug, one day after it was announced that the delegation of the Ministry of Economy had, in Berlin signed the letter of intent to with the Lufthansa airline company reintroduce the air-route Belgrade-Pristina.

On behalf of Kosovo, the letter of intent with Lufthansa was signed by the general director of the Kosovo Department of civilian aviation. The signing was organized in the US Embassy, with the presence of the US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien and US Special Presidential Envoy for Serbia and Kosovo, Richard Grenell, who had been the intermediaries in the reaching of the agreement.

The agreement was welcomed on Twitter by Serbian President AleksandarVucic.

“We are grateful to Amb. @RichardGrenell and US National Security Advisor @robertcobrien for their critical role in helping to establish direct flights between Belgrade/Pristina. Serbia is ready to pursue more such initiatives, bringing people in the Balkans closer together”, wrote Vucic, whose twit was then retweeted by Grenell also.

On this occasion, the US President Donald Trump also made a statement on Twitter.

“Everyone said it couldn’t be done. But for the first time in a generation, there will be direct flights between Serbia and Kosovo. Another win. Thanks to @WHNSC Ambassador Robert O’Brien and Ambassador @RichardGrenell!”, Trump wrote.
