The pro-government private television station Pink reported two days after the emoting that Borrell supported the idea of the Serbian president for Belgrade to be provided certain benefits in exchange for an agreement with Pristina, due to the inability for Serbia to gain full EU membership.

“Borrell agrees that taxes and the retraction of recognition cannot be compared, and promised that he would consider [Vucic’s] idea for Serbia to be admitted into the Schengen zone before officially joining the Union,” stated the television station, citing reliable sources.

The television station reported that such a possible development could be interpreted as a signal that the EU honestly wants to absorb the entire Western Balkans region into the Union.

Neither Vucic nor Borrell officially spoke about the alleged idea, the details that it would entail, nor the possibility of being implemented. Vucic told reporters that he gave Borrell some suggestions, but he did not specify what they were, and Borrell did not mention this at all.
