Serbian PM: Refusal of North Macedonia to extradite Albanians suspect of war crimes is “political decision”

Serbian PM: Refusal of North Macedonia to extradite Albanians suspect of war

The refusal of the North Macedonia authorities to extradite to Serbia the Kosovo Albanian suspected of war crimes is “above all a political decision”, Brnabic said in Skopje.

The Skopje Supreme Court passed the decision in mid-August that the former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) Tomor Morina could not be extradited to Serbia since not all legal conditions for this were met.

Morina was arrested at the end of July in North Macedonia on the grounds of an international arrest warrant issued by Serbia for war crimes, and after the Court’s decision, he was released from custody in Skopje and returned to Kosovo.

“For us, this is a political decision which directly interferes with legal matters”, Brnabic said.

She also said that she did not believe that Zaev could have influenced such a decision, just as she could not influence similar cases in Belgrade.

Zaev said that this was a decision of the judicial bodies and that such decisions were brought outside any political influence.
