UK Ambassador to Serbia: Government Has Obligation to Provide Fair and Free

British Ambassador to Belgrade Sian MacLeod stated that the Serbian Government has the obligation to provide fair and free elections, in line with the international democratic standards that it has adopted.

“When elections are held in my country, as a citizen, I want to choose freely between different policies, platforms, and candidates. I also want to have free access to the stances that they support through free media, such as, for example, on the public media service,” stated MacLeod, as reported by Politika.

She added that it is up to experts monitoring the electoral process in Serbia to judge whether the elections that will be boycotted by part of the opposition will be legitimate.

“It is specifically up to the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. We will be paying attention to what they will say,” stated MacLeod.
