VOA: the US Call for Giving Up on Acquisition of Russian Weapons, Warn of

The US State Department called for giving up on the acquisition of weapons from Russia so as to avoid the introduction of American sanctions, the Voice of America (VOA) reported on Tuesday, in a day the second batch of Russian self-propelled surface-to-air missile system of the air defencePantsir S-1E was delivered to Serbia.

In a written response to VOA's question, the State Department called on all its allies and partners to give up on transactions with Russia which could lead to the introduction of sanctions on the grounds of Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), passed by US Congress in 2017.

The State Department also pointed out that, in the talks with Serbian officials, concern had been expressed several times over the purchasing of Russian military equipment, including the purchase of the Pantsir system.

CAATSA is a US federal law that imposed economic sanctions on Iran, Russia and North Korea, with the intention of countering perceived aggressions against the US government by foreign powers.
