Vucic Indicates No Meeting With Trump. If Demand is For Recognition of Kosovo,

Negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina will be held in Washington on September 3 but it’s not certain whether they will continue on September 4, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in a live appearance on the pro-regime TV Pink on Saturday.

Although he did not specifically say so, Vucic indirectly said that he would not recognize Kosovo without significant concessions for the Serbian side.

“The September 4 meeting is conditional. If they are satisfied with what is agreed there will be a meeting at the highest level in America, and if not – nothing,” Vucic said without specifying who should be satisfied even though it’s obvious that he meant the Americans and US President Donald Trump.

“We have received the official agenda of the meeting. That agenda has only one item which is unacceptable to us and we are prepared to talk about everything else and delve into details.

“However, I am not sure that things will end there. My political instinct usually sees various surprises, traps, and everything else.

“I expect some surprise in Washington. I will apologize to the American administration if there is no surprise,” Vucic said without specifying what he means but indicating indirectly that he will be asked to unconditionally recognize Kosovo.

Asked if he is nervous before the meeting in Washington, Vucic said he is not but feels “true fear”.

Asked if he expects to meet President Trump, Vucic said after a long pause: "If I am right, there will be surprises at the negotiations and if I were to accept those [surprise] demands, I assume that I would be the first Serbian president who could have a bilateral meeting with Trump.

“Since I think I know what the surprise could be, even though I have no official confirmation of it, I would rather refuse it and not have the meeting,” Vucic said adding that it's not easy for him to say that.

“The most important thing is what will happen on the night of September 3-4. We can agree easily on economic issues, in a few hours. I am waiting to see what will happen after that … and then comes a long night,” Vucic said.

“USA and Trump insist on recognition and won’t give that up”: “Let me remind you that President Trump wrote in his letter when he invited myself and [Kosovo President Hashim] Thaci to the White House about mutual recognition of Serbia and Kosovo. Trump and the United States have not and will not give that up.

“People in Serbia should know, the only topic everywhere including in America, will be mutual recognition. One way or another. In Europe, that topic will come at the end and they will say that they insist on normalizing relations up to that time… and whoever says differently is lying.

“[The USA and EU] have no intention of offering Serbia anything. They can offer us a European perspective and loans which we do not need… They are not prepared to give us money as a gift nor do they want to …. Either one. They will talk about 40 billion something and actually that will be in loans and investments in projects which we will also have to repay through concessions or other things.

“As things are now, I see that we will have a lot of big problems because everyone wants something, everyone wants to get some job done and Serbia gets nothing,” Vucic said and claimed that he will not sign anything that is opposed to Serbian national interests. As usual, he did not specify those interests.
