Residents are alarmed! River in Argentina turns red

A canal on the outskirts of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, turned bright red on Thursday, causing concern among local residents. Footage posted on social media and local media showed the intensely colored water flowing into the Rio de la Plata, an estuary near an ecological reserve.

According to preliminary reports , the cause of this phenomenon could be the dumping of chemical waste from a nearby warehouse or the dye used in the textile industry. Authorities intervened immediately and the Ministry of Environment announced that it had taken samples from the Sarande canal to determine the source of the pollution. By the afternoon, the intensity of the color had begun to fade.

Local residents have expressed concern about the ongoing pollution of the canal. Silvia, a resident of the area, told local media outlet C5N that this is not the first time the stream has changed color. “Today it turned red, but other times it has been yellow, with an acidic smell,” she said. Another resident, Maria Ducomls, told AFP that she had seen the canal’s water turn different colors, including blue, green and pink, accusing industries of systematic pollution.

Residents are demanding urgent measures to stop the pollution, while authorities have launched investigations to identify those responsible and prevent similar cases in the future.
