European Union offers support to North Macedonia after Kochani tragedy

The European Union stands ready to help North Macedonia cope with the aftermath of the tragic fire that broke out at a nightclub in Kocan, causing at least 59 casualties and 155 injuries. European Commissioner for Equality, Readiness and Crisis Management, Hadja Labib, expressed the solidarity of the EU for this serious event, offering support to North Macedonia in this difficult period.

Labib stressed that the EU's thoughts are with the victims, their families and emergency teams who are working to save lives. "The BSA is ready to provide support. We stand in solidarity with North Macedonia," Labib said in a post on the "X" network.

Following the tragic event, the Government of North Macedonia declared 7 days of national mourning and has taken urgent measures to investigate the causes of the fire. The State Market Inspectorate is tasked with conducting an extraordinary inspection of all hotel facilities, including cabarets and nightclubs, to verify security conditions.

Also, the Macedonian Government has activated the mechanism for seeking international assistance and is cooperating with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to fully clarified the event. Authorities are gathering evidence and taking steps to bring those responsible for this tragedy to justice.
