Dozens killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza

At least 33 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza on Wednesday that hit a United Nations school housing displaced Palestinians, as well as two houses. Authorities in Gaza said women and children were among the victims.

The deadliest attack occurred overnight on Wednesday, when the UN school, Al-Jaouni, in Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza was hit. The Hamas group has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.

The Israeli military said militants were planning to carry out attacks from inside the school. Among the dead were 6 employees of the UN agency that helps Palestinian refugees, UNRWA. Since the beginning of the war, 220 employees of this agency have been killed.

On Thursday, Israel carried out an airstrike in the West Bank saying it was aiming to destroy militant groups to prevent attacks on Israel. It is reported that three people lost their lives as a result of the attacks.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said today that it has evacuated about 100 people, among them children, from Gaza to the United Arab Emirates, calling for the restoration of permission for the regular transfer of patients from the region. Richard Peeperkorn, the UN representative for the Palestinian territories, said that Gaza needs more medical corridors, adding that more than 10,000 Gazans are waiting to be transferred.

The war in Gaza began on October 7, after Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing about 1,200 and kidnapping nearly 250 others, according to Israeli authorities. As a result of the Israeli offensive, more than 41 thousand Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, most of them women and children, although the Israeli army says that the balance includes thousands of militants./VOA
